Tips for a visit:
The ships of the Monnickendam Sailing Charter Fleet are moored in and around the historic inner harbor of picturesque Monnickendam. The small town on the former Zuiderzee, (now split up into Gouwzee, Markermeer and IJsselmeer), has a rich history of trade, merchant sailing and fishing.
The town centre, a conservation area, offers numerous attractions. In addition to many historic buildings and gable stones, the Waterland Museum “De Speeltoren”, opened in 2012, comes highly recommended. You can take a walk with an authorizedcity guide, and there are also interesting walking routes to be obtained at the VVV Tourist Information Point.
The quay from where you boardis located in the very centre, with historical sites, shops, cafes, restaurants and a supermarket within walking distance. There is a great playground for children, and a street market on Saturdays.
All activities and events taking place in the municipality can be found on the onswaterland.nl event calendar. Monnickendam is a short drive from several larger cities, such as Amsterdam and Hoorn. Frequent bus services will quicdkly take you to Amsterdam Central Station (20 min), Horn (20 min) or Volendam (10 min).
There are many attractive ports on the IJsselmeer, that can be visited during day trips or multi-day sailing trips. Please discuss your wishes with the skipper.
