This traditional klipperaak from 1916 is one of the last sailing cargo ships to have been built. The ship is characterized by the traditional colors of the former “Brown Fleet”. Nevertheless, all modern comforts and conveniences are present on board. The ship is very comfortable, with an attractive maritime deco full of high-gloss wooden elements. The “hold” has ample seating for a cozy and comfortable get-together, and on deck everyone can find a nice spot for a relaxed conversation. Once the sails are hoisted, time becomes a relative term. The handy calculation program on the Catharina’s website lets you see at a glance how much your particular trip is going to cost; you can compose your own custom sailing experience according to your budget.
Jos learned the intricacies of sailing on the South Holland lakes. By the age of twelve he sailed independently, and soon he managed to turn his passion for water into his job. In 1999, he bought the klipperaak Catharina of Mijdrecht. Danny Honig, the ship’s cook, accompanies Jos on most trips. Her ancestors founded a famous soup brand in the Netherlands, so cooking is in her genes. Now she combines her love for sailing with her passion for cooking, aboard this classic ship.
