De Blocq van Kuffeler pumping station
One of the largest pumping stations in the world
Tips for a visit:
The De Blocq van Kuffeler pumping station near Almere has kept our feet dry in the southern part of the Flevopolder since 1967. It is one of the largest pumping stations in the world when it comes to head (pumping height) and capacity.
This part of the polder, which was drained in 1968, is a beautiful area for nature lovers. With civilization at a safe distance, many birds have found their breeding ground in the nearby Oostvaardersplassen. The lock, with a decline of more than seven metres, is an experience in itself. Starting from visitor centre ‘De Trekvogel’ in Almere are several walking and cycling routes.
