The sea-tjalk Selene is an exclusive ship for day trips and offers plenty of space, with several sitting areas both inside and on deck. The Selene is also a unique venue for parties, workshops and meetings. The ship is also an official wedding location in the Waterland municipality. The Selene is a very romantic place for an intimate wedding ceremony!
In a distant past, this sea-tjalk from 1902 transported grain across the Baltic Sea to Denmark. In 2008, the skippers decided to change course and renovate the entire ship. The result is a stylish, bright interior with exceptionally large portholes, giving wonderful views over -and sometimes even under- the water. By opting to include the former deckhouse into the hold, Selene also has a lot of inside space to enjoy when the weather is less than wonderful; a lot of interaction is possible between the above and below deck spaces.
The two different doorways ensure that everyone can freely move about the ship. There is a cozy conversation pit, benches and bean bags on deck, to make sure you can relax and enjoy the tranquility of the water. Below deck, large tables arranged for extensive dining or meetings. The ship’s bar and lounge sofas make it a cozy space for drinks with friends, family and colleagues; in addition to the central heating, the fireplace provides more comfortable warmth and atmosphere. A private room is available for guests to withdraw to and freshen up, or let little children take a nap in.
Johan and Edith have been sailing the Selene with love and passion for 25 years. They have put their attention to every detail on board. Their personal touch can be found in the decoration of the ship. All food is freshly made with love in their own galley, and they work with organic products whenever possible.
